Hawaii Regional Climate Model Simulations (HRCM)

The HRCM uses a nested version of the advanced Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with both high resolution and improved physics for the Hawaiian region. It includes a version of the Tiedke convection parameterization scheme. The HRCM was then further improved by including a new cloud microphysics package and introducing a detailed specification of surface properties (albedo, land cover type, soil type, and green vegetation fraction) for the Hawaiian Islands (Zhang et al., 2012). We provide 20-year computer model simulations representing near-present day conditions and conditions at the end of the present century.

The 3D fields are provided on model levels which are formulated at constant eta values defined as
eta = ( p - pt ) / ( ps - pt ) where p is the hydrostatic pressure and ps is the surface hydrostatic pressure and pt is a constant set here to 10 hPa.  The model uses a staggered grid in the vertical so depending on the variable it will be available on either 30 or 31 individual eta levels.

More information is available on the HRCM projects page.
