Updating the dataset

One of the scatterometers featured in this product, SeaWinds on QuikSCAT, is still active. The CERSAT regularly updates the QuikSCAT mean wind fields dataset with the latest fields produced from the latest swath data delivered by QuikSCAT. These fields can be downloaded from the CERSAT web and ftp servers.

As additional available data, daily QuikSCAT mean wind field can also be obtained from these servers. A merged multi-sensor wind field dataset, computed with increased space and time resolution from ERS-1, ERS-2, NSCAT, QuikSCAT scatterometers and SSM/I radiometers, will also be available from Fall 2002.

Subsetting on the web on-line extraction service

Data subsetting and downloading according to temporal and/or geographical criteria can be performed through a download form available on CERSAT web site, in the data section.
Fill in the form - without forgetting your email - and submit. You will receive a request notification by e-mail. The data subsets are made available to you as compressed tar files (referenced in the e-mail), to be found on the IFREMER ftp server (address : ftp.ifremer.fr), under the directory "/ifremer/cersat/tmp" when logged as anonymous.

Downloading from the ftp server

All mean wind fields, including the latest generated, are available as netCDF zipped files on CERSAT anonymous ftp server hosted by IFREMER (ftp.ifremer.fr), in the directory /ifremer/cersat/products/gridded. The files organized as follow :

• The first level corresponds to the satellite (mwf-ers1, mwf-ers2, mwf-nscat, mwf-quikscat)
• in the data subdirectory, an additional level indicates the time resolution of the mean wind fields (daily, weekly, monthly)
