LIS/OTD 2.5 Degree Low Resolution Annual Climatology (LRAC)

Gridded OTD+LIS combined product - 2.5 deg. annual flash rate climatology

Combined OTD (Optical Transient Detector) + LIS (Lightning Imaging Sensor) total (interclouds+cloud to ground) flash production gridded to 2.5x2.5 lat/lon. is given as a daily climatology. The time span is 5 yrs of the satellite mission (OTD 4/95-3/00, LIS 1/98-12/02). The climatology is determined as the total number of flashes at a given location over the total viewing time of the sensor. In addition, the resulting flash production is weighted by the instrument detection efficiency.
