The FRA-JCOPE2 17 year NW Pacific Ocean reanalysis data

Japan Coastal Ocean Prediction Experiment (JCOPE) reanalysis (FRA-JCOPE2)

By assimilating most available observation data into the JCOPE2 ocean forecast system, the ODPRT team has created the reanalysis data (FRA-JCOPE2) with horizontal high resolution of 1/12 deg. to describe the oceanic variability associated with the Kuroshio-Kuroshio Extension, the Oyashio, and the mesoscale eddies from January 1993 to December 2009 (Miyazawa et al., 2009; 2010). Collaboration with Japanese Fishery Research Agency (FRA) has allowed us to assimilate huge amount of in-situ data around Japan. The assimilation of the in-situ data around Japan is quite effective to capture the Kuroshio frontal waves, the Oyashio intrusion, and the meso-scale eddies.

Please note that these data are on a staggered grid.

Principal conditions of data use:

1. The user is permitted to use the data for the purpose of scientific research.

2. The user is not allowed to copy or reproduce the data in any form for the purposes of distribution, (whether for remuneration or otherwise), sale, hire, lease or license or otherwise commercialise the data.

3. The user is recommended to include our paper (Miyazawa et al., 2009; 2010) in the reference of any documents describing results obtained from analyses/visualizations of the data.
