CPC Merged Analysis of Precipitation (CMAP) V5.1

There are two files containing monthly and pentad averaged precipitation rate, based on 5 satellite estimates (GPI, OPI, SSM/I scattering, SSM/I emission and MSU), rain gauges, and optional NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Precipitation. The files which include NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis Precipitation rates are also called enhanced CMAP product.

This data set consists of monthly averaged precipitation rate values (mm/day) for the time period Jan 1979 to the Aug 2005. The data is 2.5°x2.5° gridded (144x72) and covers 88.75°N to 88.75°S and 1.25°E to 358.75°E (eastward). The data range is approximately 0 to 70mm/day. The standard (without NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis data) version has some missing values.

The pentad dataset consists of 73 pentads per year with the 12th pentad covering Feb 25-Mar 1 whether or not there is a leap year. The pentad starts on the date stored in the netcdf file.

Monthly Climatologies are documented.
